Mama has seven fuzzy new chicks. The barnyard is big. Things sparkle, things flap, and things wiggle, and the chicks want to know about all of them.

They scoot higgledy-piggledy here and there. Mama clucks, "Watch out for danger!" But they are too curious, and they get into trouble. Luckily, there's always a place under Mama's wings, and plenty of barnyard family to watch over them.
Big Idea!
This story helps children understand the idea of a "village" to keep them safe, and helps very young children identify their own feelings of nurture and protection.
My Grandbaby, Lucia (8 months), leans forward anxiously as Mama counts up her seven little chicks running for cover-- "One, two, three, four...five.. ....six .......SEVEN!" Lucia settles into my lap with satisfaction, thumb in mouth, as the last chick is safe and counted. Of the many books on Lucia's shelf, this one is her favorite
