Grandmas in the great big world

Thanks for asking!
Yup, a new "grandma" book is coming out from Chronicle probably in 2008. Grandma Calls Me Beautiful is the third book in my "Great Big Family" series--a group of books that looks at a family member (Mama, Papa, Grandma etc.) and their special way to love a child. Each book takes place within a traditional culture. The first, Mama, Do You Love Me? reflects the universal feeling of mom-love--unconditional and supportive--in arctic Alaska within the Inuit culture. The second, Papa, Do You Love Me? tells of the unconditional and empowering love of a father toward his Maasai son. The third, Grandma Calls Me Beautiful, tells of the special love of a Hawaiian grandmother telling a talk-story to her beloved grandchild, whom she calls Beautiful.

In case you're wondering . . . no. I'm not a grandma yet, but I have aspirations.

I love the idea of writing books in this theme. I just became a new mom and I love Mama, Do You Love Me? I wish the grandmother book was out already so I could give it to my mom, but I will be excited to look for it next year. I hope it is bright and cheery, as that is what I imagine when I think of Hawaii.
